Barack Obama – The Real Problem in America?

Yesterday, Barack Obama, President of the United States, showed his true worldview.

For the past four years he has worked hard to convince the American public that he is a practicing Christian. The debate of that reality has continued, though many have given courteous acceptance of his profession simply because it seemed the gracious thing to do.

Many of us were startled when he spoke to an audience in Egypt 3 years ago stating that “America is not a Christian nation.” While some would concur with his premise because of the vast slide we see from our nations moral and religious foundation, the very idea that our president would concede the nation to pluralism seemed unfathomable.

But yesterday he made yet another clear statement that he believes “gay couples should be allowed to be married.” Probably everyone has heard that by now. But I especially noted that his remarks followed the careful and soulful statement “for me personally.”

His words, “for me personally” are completely overlooked in most conversations on this momentous event. But I believe they reveal the soul of the person and the foundation for his diverging politics.

His position to endorse same-sex marriage, unprecedented for any American president, is just another affirmation (of many) that confirms that Barack Obama does not have a biblical worldview!

And herein lies the real problem facing Christianity in America today. Millions of Americans, like the President, still call themselves Christians. We still have churches on every corner. Some are bursting at the seams. But fewer and fewer Christians have (or hold to) a biblical worldview! Like the President, the culture is crying for pluralism and tolerance for anything except for clear biblical faith.

Why?  Because generations of Americans have now been educated to distrust the reliability of scripture and in fact have been taught that science and logic defy it. Humanism has perhaps become the prominent worldview in this country and now defines the core of broader Christianity as well.

The bible is clear that marriage was ordained by God to be between one man and one woman. It is also clear that God includes homosexual activity as sin and totally unacceptable to God, just as is all sexual activity outside of marriage.

The bible is also clear that “God is not mocked. Whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” Large portions of scripture are dedicated to illustrating for us the fate of nations who fail to follow the laws of God. And Jesus made it clear to those who professed to be his followers that one of the measurements for testing their love relationship with him was their obedience to God’s commandments.

So what conclusion can we come to?

To me it’s simple. It is critical that the Church and Christians get serious about being primarily influenced by the teachings of the bible. We must be biblical Christians, following the God of the bible in loving the sinner while hating and resisting the sin.

Beyond that, we must realize that when the Church and parents fail to capture a child’s mind for the things of God, the child’s mind will be lost to sin! We must model our faith for our children. We must also insist that biblical truth be the foundation for all of their learning.

Finally, we must share our biblical belief with all who will hear …and follow it when we go to the polls! The people in NC did that yesterday in a clear vote to uphold biblical concepts of marriage in their state. Over 30 states have done so.  It’s time to stand up and make a difference… in our own commitments, in the education of our children and youth and at the ballot box.
